Who We Are
The Uganda Association of Ottawa’s initial start was in 1986 when a Ugandan Women’s Group of Ottawa was created. This group’s focus was to take action to bring women into full participation and integration in the mainstream of the Canadian society – to be able to exercise all privileges and responsibilities. The idea behind this was that by focusing on the women, we were also directly focusing on the children.
The group evolved and the community on whole made a decision to create an association that included the whole community of Ugandans in Ottawa. Hence, the Uganda Association of Ottawa (UAO) was created and registered as a Not-for-Profit in 1990 under the Province of Ontario.
